Duluth Homegrown runs today through May 8

hgc-290x290The Duluth Homegrown Music Festival opens today and runs through next Sunday.

This week-long music extravaganza is the hallmark of the emerging Duluth music scene and boasts more live music in one week than some towns see all year long.

Quite simply, Duluth Homegrown is back-to-back live music all week long at more than a dozen venues — mostly within walking distance — in Duluth, Minnesota.

The Duluth scene isn’t just one genre — it’s a workmanlike mishmash of many styles of music. Nowhere is that more apparent than at Homegrown, where many up-and-coming bands are first noticed, and celebrated heroes come home to play.

If producing the Great Northern Radio Show was my only job, I’d probably slate this whole week for a scouting trip to Duluth. Many of the guest acts on my show end up playing here.

As it stands, I’m a work-a-day fella from the Iron Range who has bills to pay and classes to teach. One of these years I’ll make the journey. You should go for me, and if you see a really cool act, let me know.
