After years of rejecting hunting traditions, acceptance brings unexpected connection

Minnesota’s firearms deer hunting season has one more weekend to go, but I’ve already achieved my goals for the year. No, I didn’t shoot a deer, but I engaged in two weekends of forest walks, patient vigil, wide-ranging conversation and family rituals.

Last Friday, I did a segment on KAXE talking about a recent column I wrote for the Minnesota Star Tribune. I went in thinking it would be a fun little rumination on hunting. It ended up being something a little deeper as I talked about my years of rejecting family hunting traditions before taking them back up when my sons showed interest. It’s about hunting, yes, but really about parenting, acceptance and the dreams we have for our children.

Take a listen!
