On the Air: Remembering as we go

This week, it was lightly noted that Johnny Carson taped his final Tonight Show 20 years ago this past Monday.

I was 12 the year Johnny signed off. We were living south of Eveleth, not far from Forbes — a little Iron Range rail location where the elementary school I attended 1st and 2nd grades had just recently been turned into a bar. I had no idea how much 1990s late night television would affect my life.

This is my topic for my weekly contribution to Northern Community Radio’s Saturday morning call-in and music show “Between You and Me.” This week we’re talking about how we record memories as they happen, much the way a nightly monologue records our times.

You can hear Between You and Me from 10 a.m. to noon on 91.7 KAXE (Grand Rapids, Aitkin and the Iron Range), 89.9 (Brainerd and Fort Ripley) and 90.5 KBXE (Bemidji and Baxter). You can hear the show online or listen the archives at www.kaxe.org.
