Great Northern Radio Show weekend is here

Great Northern Radio Show

The Great Northern Radio Show is music, stories and comedy about the experience of modern life off the beaten path.

This “Straight Outta Compton” parody video by the Fosston-raised rapper turned big city comedian Bino White was our initial inspiration when we started working on tomorrow’s Great Northern Radio Show in Fosston, Minnesota. My radio variety program heads to this northwestern Minnesota farming town Saturday, Dec. 14 for a live broadcast 5-7 p.m. on Northern Community Radio. I’m on my way over there this morning.

You can hear the Great Northern Radio Show on 91.7 KAXE (Grand Rapids and the Iron Range), 90.5 KBXE (Bagley and Bemidji), 89.9 FM (Brainerd) and 103.9 FM (Ely) and streaming live all over the world at KAXE.org. We’ll be rebroadcast in coming weeks on other independent public radio stations and our podcast will be out before Christmas. The links to past episodes are found here.

If you’re anywhere near Fosston, I’d recommend the drive out to see the show live. It’s a small, intimate theater (about 150 seats) with good acoustics and we’ll have some excellent music and comedy. Tickets are free, but you should call the radio station today (218-326-1234) and reserve a spot. I expect we’ll have some rush seating, but why chance it?

Our headliner is Reina del Cid and the Cidizens. We’ll be featuring our old friend Katie Wig and students from Fosston High School. We have something of an all-star cast in our Great Northern Radio Players, and a number of surprises await the listener and live audience alike.
