Brainerd-based Minnesota singer-songwriter Katie Wig was an early discovery on the Brainerd edition of my Great Northern Radio Show in 2012. She also performed in Bagley last spring. The 20-year-old recently announced she was going to focus full time on her music. That’s a bold move, and she’s starting on our December 14 show in Fosston, Minnesota.
Katie Wig’s development as a musician has been astounding. From her first public performance of any kind the fall of her senior year of high school she has gone on to write and record her own music, performing twice on our radio show to audience acclaim. She is a deep, powerful writer whose natural voice demands some kind of emotional response. She’ll be doing some original music and something special for the holidays for this program, along with some acting on our stage.
The show broadcasts 5-7 p.m. on Northern Community Radio. Free tickets are available for a studio audience of about 150 people. Call 218-326-1234 to reserve your tickets. Audience must be seated by 4:30 p.m. While we pride ourselves on the end product — a radio show — the live experience is one people seem to enjoy quite a bit.
I profiled headliner Reina del Cid and the Cidizens yesterday. Tomorrow I’ll talk more about Fosston and the show we have planned for Saturday.
